Should I feed my baby fish?
You should take the opportunity to feed you baby fish, yes. In my opinion fish should be offered to your baby as a weaning food as part of a weaning recipe from around 7-8 months of age as fish is incredibly important to a human’s diet. It is a valuable source of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids which are necessary for the growth and maintenance of healthy eyes and brain. between birth and five years old your child’s brain will grow rapidly and a good source of omega acids is essential.
The best fish to use are naturally high in Omega-3 and Omega-6. Mackerel, Herring, Sardines, Tuna and Salmon are all good candidates. I would advise against using tinned tuna as this is processed and contains little Omega acids and, sometimes, a lot of salt.
- DO buy fresh fish and try to use on the day of purchase.
- DO cook thoroughly
- DO check very carefully when mashing and mixing that there are NO bones.
When I get the chance I will post some weaning recipes my nan used to feed me when weaning me off breastmilk.
As I state in all my articles and weaning recipes, I am not a pediatrician or a nutritionist and my information is based on personal experience and thorough research only.
Happy weaning!
